THE ESTROGEN MYTH

Estrogen Replacement Therapy--now consider to be possibly dangerous and unnecessary.

Approximately 90 percent of all women in the United States have at least some type of menstrual complaint. Symptoms are moderate to severe in up to 40 percent, and intensely harsh for one in ten.

According to The New England Journal of Medicine, one in every six white North American women will have a hip fracture during her life time -- the most important cause of ill-health and death among older women. One in four suffers from fractures of the vertebrae or forearm, and in three will develop osteoporosis.

Since the mid-1900's the medical profession in the United States has considered the lack of estrogen to be the primary cause of osteoporosis. Most, if not all medical schools continue to teach their doctors-in-training that the best treatment for progressive bone loss is estrogen replacement therapy.

Increasingly, medical researchers are discovering that a high percentage of women experiencing this painful and debilitating condition are not estrogen deficient at all. Rather, the research indicates that they are progesterone-deficient.

In reality, women continue to manufacture estrogen during and following menopause, and even to some extent following surgery for hysterectomy. The problem, in simple terms, is that the estrogen receptor sites may become clogged, and the body cannot utilize the estrogen for its benefit, resulting in a hormonal imbalance.

CONSEQUENCES OF HORMONE IMBALANCE:

* Breast Tenderness
* Bloating
* Cancer
* Cramps
* Energy loss
* Depression
* Endometriosis
* Fibroid Tumors
* Height Loss
* Hot Flushes
* Infertility
* Mental Malaise
* Migraine Headaches
* Mood Swings
* Weight Problems

SINCE 1991 THERE HAVE BEEN CLEAR WARNINGS THAT THIS PRACTICE OF HORMONE REPLACEMENT MAY HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.

The medical publication, Breast Cancer Research, reported in 1991 on evidence exposing estrogen's role in breast cancer from a number of international studies.

In 1992, the International Journal of Cancer warned that cervical cancer is stimulated in response to excess estradiol.

In 1994, a report in Molecular & Cellular Endocrinology also revealed that synthetic progestins induce proliferation of breast cancer cells.

Again, in 1994 the American Health Journal cautioned that estrogen has complex actions, including risks of endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and gallstones.

A better choice would be to utilize Transdermal Progesterone Cream, containing natural progesterone and the Wild Mexican Yam (Dioscorea). This is considered to be much safer, more effective and without the negative side effects experienced with synthetic estrogen or progestins.

WHY PROGESTERONE?

Hormones are produced by various glands and organs in the body. They are the messengers that deliver instructions to various parts of the body. When there is a deficiency of one, or too much of another, our bodies become imbalance. One of the most serious consequences of this imbalance is osteoporosis, the gradual disintegration of the skeletal system.

Unlike estrogen which, at best, can slow the loss of bone mass, progesterone helps control the osteoblast cells which build new bone. When there is too much estrogen or too little progesterone, the bones will lose density, and without the proper nutritional support, osteoporosis will certainly develop.

A woman's natural production of estrogen can begin to decline before the onset of menopause, but accelerates during the menopause years. We now know that this inhibits the ability of progesterone to keep the various estrogen receptor sites clear and functioning normally.

Progesterone acts as a regulator for the entire endocrine system. Although generally regarded as a female sex hormone, it is an extremely important hormone for males, as well. In men, it is manufactured in the testes. It is also made in the adrenal cortex of both men and women. Progesterone is so vital to the life of a fetus, no one could be born without it. Progesterone also modulates nerve function, promotes healthy thymus glands, and works as a mild antidepressant.

Unlike the many warnings about synthetic estrogen and progestins, findings reported in the medical journal, Fertility and Sterility, Vol. 63, No.4, April 1995, reveal that: Transdermal progesterone is well absorbed, reduces breast cell proliferation, and progesterone administered monthly will reduce risk of breast cancer..

All-natural transdermal progesterone cream promises to be the product of choice for those seeking a safe, effective, easy to use alternative to the more traditional estrogen replacement therapy discussed in this page.
