What are free radicals, and where do they come from? Free radicals are created in airborne emissions, natural sunlight, chlorination, and other chemical sources. Our bodies also create these free radicals in the process of burning fat for energy. To put it in simple terms, a free radical is an atom or molecule with an unpaired electron.
