For centuries, healing has been a mystery to many Christians. But I believe heaven is closer to earth now than at any other time in history. As a result, we are obtaining clearer revelation about healing than ever before.

The book “A More Excellent Way” is based on disease prevention, not disease management. What changed Pastor Wright’s life forever was because of his mother’s miraculous healing.

As he tells us in this book…”My mother was dying of fibro sarcoma cancer, fast growing and fatal, which had wrapped around her jugular vein. Just two months after my birth, she was dying. She was paralyzed. Masses of cancer had grown around her jugular vein and up into the base of her brain—up and down her whole neck area. She repented of bitterness and made a Hannah-type covenant that if God would heal her, she would raise me, Henry, in the knowledge of God.

In this private moment of prayer while others were praying for her, God healed her instantly. When the doctors checked, they were amazed to find no evidence of cancer: No medical treatment had been given, yet the masses of cancer were gone, evaporated. Even more remarkable, her healing broke a pattern, a genetic curse from her past. You see, her mother had died of cancer within two months of giving birth to her. With this curse defeated, my mother lived another 33 years.

In my later years—you noticed I said, “Later years…” -- I dedicated my life to God and the study of the Scriptures. The Bible says to teach a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he shall not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 says—Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The Scriptures seemed to indicate that the LORD wanted to heal all of our disease.

Psalm 103:3 says—Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy disease (KJV)

Pastor Wright continues to say how he understood the frustration of Carl Jung as he observed his minister father preach a gospel that offered no solutions for the diseases of the soul and the body. Today’s psychology is, in part, the fruit of that frustration as an attempt to manage the diseases of the soul through therapy and drugs.  I observed the church, religions, alternative medicine, spiritual groups, allopathic medicine, chiropractic, and eastern mysticism, trying to decrease the effects of disease through various methods. In the end, all I really ever saw was disease management.

God not only forgives us of all our iniquities, but He heals us of all our diseases. It doesn’t say “He helps us manage all our disease.” It is not that God cannot heal you, or that He doesn’t want to. The problem is that man does not understand disease. We have gone into captivity and are perishing, either because of lack of knowledge or just no knowledge at all. I think that sometimes we create theologies based on our lack of knowledge. The beginning of all healing of spiritual rooted diseases begins when you make your peace with God, and accept His love once and for all, accepting yourself and accepting others.

Pastor Wright says—I believe God wants to work with us. I believe He is a loving Father. I believe also that we have become separated from God in our understanding of disease. We would like to take a shot at correcting that.

In understanding disease—spiritual, psychological—we’ll find that the Bible has a lot to say about the subject. I’m privileged to be on the “cutting edge” of medicine from coast to coast because of this Biblical understanding of disease. There are doctors, as well as therapists, psychologists, pastors, and individuals across America who consult with me.

It’s a funny thing to be a pastor and be on the “cutting edge” of medicine. It’s an enigma to the medical community. As one doctor said, “What is a pastor from Georgia doing messing around with disease?” Well, I’m messing around with it because my Boss is the Great Physician. I’m messing around in it because the Creator of all flesh is the One who knows what’s wrong with us. I’m messing around with it because God ordained it. I’ll show you in Scripture that the pastor is to be responsible for all the affairs of God’s people.

I think, and I say this very carefully, that God is just about ticked off at the psychologists being the pastors of America. If there are any psychologists reading this, I love you man, I love you woman. But I do think you have taken some things away from the pastors that are rightfully theirs to deal with. Under Old Testament law, if anyone had leprosy, in order to be considered cured, to whom did they go show themselves?  The priest. In the New Testament, it goes a little further James 5:14-15 says:

14Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.  James 5:14-15

Right here in these verses we see the lack of sanctification in a believer’s life and the consequence, which shows us the relationship of sin to disease.
